Academy goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire was delighted to play his part as Rangers beat Celtic on penalties in the Glasgow Cup Final.
Steven Smith’s side went ahead through the returning Neraysho Kasanwirjo – who had been out since November with a serious knee injury – but their Old Firm rivals equalised just before half-time when Rhys Dargie struck.
Paul Nsio and Chris Eadie had chances to win it for the Light Blues after the break but the match went to spot kicks and McGuire was the hero.
He saved from Daniel Cummings before Lewis Dobbie put his effort wide of the post after Aiden McCallion had scored what proved to be the decisive penalty
Reflecting on a positive night for the Light Blues, Rydnn – who has been training with the first-team recently and was on the bench for both Europa League games against Athletic Club Bilbao – told RangersTV: “I am over the moon, games like this are easy to get up for.

“In finals, you don’t have to play your best, it is about getting over the line, that’s all that matters.
“Rangers are known for winning trophies so it is a great experience.
“Fair play to the players who put their penalties away, it takes character to do that, so thanks to the analysis team and goalie coach for looking at their penalties.
“As a goalie, it is your time to be a hero and deliver for the team. It isn’t every day you win a trophy so it has been a good night.
“It is a dream for every Rangers fan to train with the first-team, it has been good and there is no better place to work.
“Stevie knows how to calm us down and let us believe in ourselves.
“We probably didn’t play the way we wanted to, we went in at half-time at 1-1 when we probably should have been winning 1-0.
“But it goes like that sometimes in football. In the second half, they probably had the majority of the ball and we soaked it up a little bit.
“At the end of the day, we are delighted with the win.”
