Young defender Zander Hutton is full of praise for the Rangers B Team who showed great resilience to beat Celtic 3-2 in the Glasgow Cup Final.

Goals from Paul Nsio, Cole McKinnon and a late turn and finish from Zak Lovelace earned the Light Blues victory at the City Stadium but they had to dig deep to earn the victory.

The 18-year-old full-back, who also won the Scottish Youth Cup with the 18s in May, told Rangers TV: “It is a brilliant win for the lads, we went through spells in the game where it was quite tough but we came out victorious so we are happy.

“It was quite high speed, it always is in Old Firm games. The first 10 or 20 minutes is always fast, but it is just about settling into the game.

“I think the first goal going 1-0 up settled us down a wee bit.

“Obviously they scored but once Cole scored we settled in. When they scored again they got the momentum and we were kind of on the back foot but Zak’s goal at the end gave us the win.

“The boys were excellent, there was obviously those tough stages in the game that we had to dig through as a team, but I think the positivity in the group is what got us through.

“For a good 20 minutes we were pinned back and we were struggling to get out of our own box.

“I knew when Zak was through on goal he was always going to score and as soon as he did that was us, I knew we were going to win the game.

“We had a few first-team players starting and it is good to have experienced players that have been through it.

“They have been in first-teams for years now, they understand how to settle down the game and you just take the experience from them.

“Having Oscar Cortes in front of me was kind of just easy, he talked me through the game and gave me options at all times so it was good.

“Obviously the Youth Cup last season was a great win for us and the boys against Aberdeen and then it was just kind of taking that experience into this game as well.

“Finals can be quite nerve-racking before you get on the pitch but once you get on you just settle and play your game and it is good to add silverware to my stats.”
