Mason Munn was delighted to play his part as the Rangers B Team defeated Celtic 3-2 in a thrilling Glasgow Cup Final.
Goals from Paul Nsio, Cole McKinnon and a late strike from Zak Lovelace sealed the win for David McCallum and Malky Thomson’s side and it was end-to-end stuff at the City Stadium.
Northern Irishman Munn, who also played a key role in the Rangers under-18s Scottish Youth Cup Final triumph over Aberdeen earlier this year, was thrilled to collect more silverware with the Light Blues.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who agreed a new long-term contract with the club and was promoted to the first-team squad in the summer , told Rangers TV: “It is brilliant, obviously to come out on the right end of it is massive for us and the academy and on a personal note as well getting my second trophy in a year.
“It is good that we came out on the end of it, we didn’t play particularly well but in a final it is irrelevant as long as you win that is all that matters.
“It is an Old Firm so no matter what you want to win, but with a final it adds that extra bit of pressure I suppose.
“Finding a way to win is massive and we done that.
“Obviously it shows a lot of resilience from the boys.
“We are still a young team – we had a bit of experience but only up until half-time that was.
“It was good from the young lads to show that they have got that resilience in the locker as well because it is not all about just playing football it is about being able to dig in deep and win games of football so they have done well.
“If anyone asked you how do you want to win a game you would say a last minute goal.
“It was nice but also the pressure of when you do go in front then they are piling on pressure they are trying to get a goal back so it becomes difficult but you have got to concentrate, focus and do the right things right until the end and we done that, so credit to the lads.
“Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes both started and both are experienced players who have played for the first-team many a time.
“It was good to have them involved and to win the game.
“Philippe Clement was also watching. When he is here it is a good opportunity to go and play well but even if you are just training it is still a real good chance to go and prove yourself round there, because he is watching all the time.
“You might think he is not there but he is, I know from experience.
“He is always around, he likes the academy and he wants to use the academy so it is massive for the boys, they need to have the belief they can make that step.”
