Findlay Curtis says he has returned to Rangers a better player after his loan spell at Kilmarnock and experiences with Scotland at the World Cup.

The 19-year-old forward thrived during his time working with Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Craig Clark at Rugby Park and his form was rewarded with a place in the national squad.

He scored five times to help the Ayrshire club avoid relegation and was in dreamland when he was called up to represent his country in their first World Cup in almost 30 years.

Curtis featured against Haiti and Brazil at the tournament and scored his first international goal in a friendly win over Curacao at Hampden in the build-up.

Now he is back with the Light Blues and excited to work with new manager Derek McInnes and his coaching staff, which includes Craig Clark who was with Derek when he was at Killie.

He scored in the 1-1 draw with Kaiser Chiefs earlier this week and he is delighted to be back with his boyhood heroes.

Speaking to Rangers TV from their pre-season training camp in Spain, Findlay – whose development was aided by annual RYDC donations to the Academy – said: “The gaffer and all the staff have been amazing.

“Obviously, I’ve known Clarky from Kilmarnock but they’ve all been brilliant with me.

“I’m really looking forward to working with them.

“If all the boys get their fitness levels up and all of us stick together as a group, through good times and bad times, I think we can have a really good season.

“It was great to get on the pitch again for Rangers and obviously scoring gives me so much more confidence going into the new season.

“From January to now has been unbelievable for me.

“I did really well at Killie and I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me. Being in the World Cup squad is obviously every kid’s dream and it was some experience going around America.

“Hopefully there’s now more to come

“It was great to come on against Haiti and Brazil but I’m just delighted to be back here.

“I love scoring goals, I love getting assists and I think you just need to be confident in yourself.

“Playing with Killie was a great experience and I learned so much.

“I needed to go out and showcase my talent and I did push for a loan.

“I think it was the best thing for me but I’m so happy to be back at Rangers now.

“I want to showcase my talent here. The season starts in a few weeks and we need to be prepared for that.”
