Rangers Academy winger Zebedee Lawson was thrilled to make his first-team debut in the recent 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Annan at Ibrox.

The 17-year-old Englishman, who joined the Light Blues last September after impressing with Brighton, was given a run-out in the second-half and was proud to pull on the jersey.

Academy graduate Liam Kelly captained the side with Findlay Curtis showing up well in attack and it was a comfortable evening for Danny Rohl’s men.

Bojan Miovski scored a hat-trick – assisted superbly by Curtis for his second – and Kieran Dowell scored a terrific header before Thelo Aasgaard wrapped things up with a fantastic long-range free-kick.

Lawson, who received a late call-up to the matchday squad, was introduced in the 53rd minute and more than held his own.

Now he has enjoyed a taste of the action, he is hungry for more.

The young forward told RangersTV: “I was over the moon. I couldn’t imagine what it felt like coming on. It was as good as they say.

“I was in my room when I got called. I got shouted and I was just so happy. I called my mum, my dad, and they wouldn’t let me off the phone the whole day. It was really good.

“It was a great moment. It was a proud moment for all of them, for me too, and for all of the people that have helped me get here. It’s been a good journey.

“It gives me so much more motivation to push forward, put in extra, and continue doing what I’m doing.

“Before the match (Danny Rohl) was telling me to make sure that I’m ready, to make sure that I do what I do and not to let the pressure get to me.

“Annan was my debut for the Under-19s funnily enough. I think it was good times both times around and I played well. In both games I came on and did my thing.

“I came to the club for moments like this. To play on that field, to play first-team football, and to show what I can to help us win.”
